Zener diode
A Zener diode is a diode made to conduct backwards at an exact voltage, so it can hold a voltage steady.
It's used backwards (reverse biased) with a resistor in series to limit the current.
Good for simple references and protecting inputs; for real power use a regulator like the 7805.
