Diode

PN junction diode, e.g. 1N4007

A diode lets current flow in one direction only.

The stripe on the diode marks the cathode (−). Current flows from the anode into the stripe end.

Diodes protect circuits from batteries connected backwards and turn AC into DC in rectifiers.
