Power

Symbol P, measured in watts (W)

Electrical power is how fast energy is used or turned into heat, light or motion: P = V × I.

A resistor that has to get rid of more power than its rating (usually ¼ W) gets hot and can burn.

Your electricity bill counts energy in kilowatt-hours: a 1,000 W heater running for one hour is one unit.
